Hajduk were afraid of second leg with Unirea, although they won the first match with 4-1, because they had the experience in Romania with Dinamo, team who defeated them in Bucharest with 3-1. The fears of Poklepovic came true even in second minute, when Bilasco took advantage of a good pass of Bordeanu and scored for 1-0, score which gave hope to Romanians. The same striker wasted a huge opportunity in 9th minute, when he missed to increase the advantage from 5 meters, after a cross from Brandan. The hosts continued to press and goalkeeper Subasic managed to reject the shots of Onofras (17) and Rusescu (24), while the guests were pleased only to preserve the result from scoreboard. Nothing important happened until half time, so the score remained 1-0 when the two teams went to locker rooms. Unirea started second half again in attack and Bilasco wasted another good opportunity to score, when he headed directly into keeper Subasic from 5 meters (53). Hajduk remained in numerical inferiority in 65th minute after elimination of Brkljaca (two yellow cards), but Croatians managed to preserve a result which wasn't dangerous for their qualification in group stage of Europa League. In 82nd minute, Vasile Maftei received red card for a tough foul against Ibricic, so Unirea had no chance to hope at least that qualification is possible. Vukusic managed to level the score in 88th minute, after an individual action, when he had fun with Unirea's defense. Following this result, Unirea finished the adventure in Europe, succeeding no victory in the four matches played in Champions League and Europa League!
Eugen Nae, interim coach of Unirea Urziceni: "It's frustrating to lose a qualification after our opponents played only 30 minutes in Split and five minutes tonight. We are very pleased with the attitude of the footballers, although they made mistakes to the final. In last minutes we tried to score again, but they surprised us on counter attack. At 1-0 we hoped that we will qualify, but we made mistakes in front of opposite post".
Stanko Poklepovic, coach of Hajduk Split: "It was an important test, because both Unirea and Dinamo are very good teams and that makes me happy, because we have practically a kindergarten compared to the Romanian teams, who have very good players. We conceded goal too early, and for a young team like ours this can be a shock. To the final of the match we had more opportunities and we were close even to win the match, but maybe it wouldn't have been fair. It is very important for us that managed to qualify in group stage. It's a performance that we eliminated two Romanian teams. Unirea played a nice football, open, and because of that I am happy that we managed to qualify in front of this team". |
