Being for the second consecutive time in the semi-finals of Romanian Cup, FC Vaslui went to Brasov to obtain a positive result. Squad problems, especially on left side, but also the weak game showed by the "yellow-greens" made that Vaslui to lose the match with 1-0 and to wait the second leg to turn the result.
After victories with Rapid and Poli Iasi, the players trained by Marius Lacatus failed to continue the row of positive results and lost in Brasov. Without Canu, Buhus, Burdujan, Genchev, Temwanjera, Hugo Luz and Gerlem, the coach of visitors had to improvise, but the reserves didn't make a good game. Although they have played pretty weak in this return, FC Brasov started well the semi-final. They attacked in waves and in 5th minute managed to open the score: Macedonian Savic crossed perfect for Ilyes, who has completed a simply formality, just pushing the ball into the net. The visitors tried to return in the game, but they have built the attacks very hard, because the opponents made a very aggressive pressing, managing to keep FC Vaslui's players away from their post. The important opportunities still belonged to the hosts, in 17th and 18th minutes, Savic and Roman being close to score the second goal, but goalkeeper Kuciak rejected. The single opportunity of FC Vaslui in first half came only in 44th minute, when after a corner kick, Pavlovic and Wesley failed to level the score.
After the break the game of FC Brasov was totally changed, because the hosts made an anti-game. In the 45 minutes, more that half of them the players of Brasov preferred to fall and remain down, waiting the final whistle of the referee. FC Vaslui had a weak day, their so called opportunities being wasted by Wesley (46), who couldn't reach to the ball crossed by Gheorghiu, and Costly (79), who shot beside the post from 16 meters.
Viorel Moldovan, coach of FC Brasov: "I congratulate the guys, because we forgot how is the taste of victory. I hope this win will bring us the confidence we need in next matches. This result is a good one because we can qualify in the final with it. It will not be easy in Vaslui, because they are a very good team. It's a pity that we couldn't increase the advantage".
Marius Lacatus, coach of FC Vaslui: "It was a balanced game, as there are all the matches from semi-finals of Romanian Cup. We tried to get a good result, but we made too many mistakes. We let our opponents to come dangerous to our post, while we had only a few opportunities. Like I said before the game, qualification will be decided in Vaslui, where I hope we will play much better. I do not complain because of the injuries from the squad, I consider that all the rest of the players must be prepared when the team needs them".
